Gravity-Defying Grace: The Real Athleticism Behind The Granville Strip’s Iconic 20-Foot Pole
If you’ve ever stepped foot inside The Granville Strip - Google's highest rated Vancouver strip club - your eyes are immediately drawn to the centrepiece of the room. We aren't just talking about any ordinary stage setup; we are home to Canada’s highest pole, stretching a jaw-dropping 21 feet from stage to ceiling.
Many of our elite entertainers utilize every single inch of that towering structure. They spin, flip, drop and hold themselves suspended in mid-air, executing death-defying stunts with an ease that looks completely effortless while utterly alluring.
To the casual observer (haha! Like you're not completely transfixed on the stunning dancers removing clothing), it looks like pure magic. But behind that cinematic grace lies a level of raw strength, physical endurance, and specialized training that could make a pro athlete's eyes pop.
So, what does it actually take to conquer Canada's tallest stage pole? To find out, we asked a true local industry legend: Tammy Morris, founder of Tantra Fitness and an internationally recognized pioneer in the pole arts space with over a decade of professional dancing experience.
The Granville Strip’s 30-foot stage poll is the highest in Canada
The Naked Athlete: Breaking Down the Physical Toll
Tammy, who spent 11 years dancing six days a week before building Vancouver’s top network of pole fitness studios, is launching a podcast aptly titled The Naked Athlete. Why? Because, as she puts it, that’s precisely what she—and every working dancer—used to be.
"The amount of athleticism that it takes to climb a 21-foot pole gracefully is higher than most people would understand until they tried it," Tammy explains.
When people ask what kind of training goes into a shift at a top-tier venue like The Granville Strip, the reality often shocks fitness buffs. Back in the traditional heyday of the strip club industry, performers would tackle multiple high-intensity sets a day, six days a week. While show lengths have evolved—shifting from intense 15-minute intervals back in the day to polished 18-minute sets today—the metabolic and physical output remains staggering.
"Either way, this is at the highest energy output that one can give for this 15 to 18 minutes," Tammy notes. "You are dancing and climbing and moving and essentially doing callisthenics. Your body is using every single muscle, and you’re stretching into positions, and it is extremely taxing on the body."

"I Never Go to the Gym"
It’s a classic interaction: a dancer steps off stage looking sculpted, toned, and possessing superhero-level core and upper-body strength. A curious customer inevitably asks, "How many times a week do you work out?"
Tammy laughs, remembering her own response from her days on the floor:
"I would kind of chuckle and condescendingly say, 'Oh, I never go to the gym.' When actually, I was going to the gym every day all day. I just happened to get paid for it! And I had to do it naked 😆"
Professional pole dancing is a masterclass in functional strength. It demands muscle strength, a bulletproof core, and immense flexibility to transition gracefully between power moves and floor work. Oh, and you must remember to smile!
